Dog sledding is fast gaining in popularity, and the Cariboo Chilcotin Coast is one of the few areas where outfitters offer the activity to the general public. Dog sled touring is offered near 100 Mile House, Canim Lake and Kruger Lake north of Bowron Lake Park.
The landscape beckons with snow-covered rolling hills and meadows, frozen rivers and lakes, and forests of aspen, Douglas-fir and ponderosa pine. Visitors to the area often combine a dogsledding adventure with a multi-day stay at one of the region's many guest ranches or lodges.
Local dogsled operators offer everything from short tours on ranchlands to more ambitious backcountry adventures, where you'll mush your own team of Siberian Huskies.
Lodges and guest ranches at or near 108 Mile Ranch, 70 Mile House and Sprout Lake offer dogsledding packages that vary from a scant 40 minutes on the trails to several days of touring that include lodgings and gourmet meals.
Moose Valley Provincial Park, southwest of 108 Mile Ranch, has trails leading past lakes and wetlands. Look for moose, wolves, coyotes, otter, fox and deer while mushing. Take a guided sled tour through the park, stopping at a rustic lakeside cabin to warm up by the fire and chow down.
